Larry Brown grew up playing and following sports, and has been a lifelong sports fan. Always an astute and cerebral athlete, he began coaching at the young age of 13 as a junior counselor at a specialized baseball camp. He privately trained athletes while in college and later helped train a Pac-12 softball player who was a candidate for national Freshman of the Year.
After carving out a career in sports media, Coach Larry began coaching again when his oldest son started playing sports. He has served a volunteer coach in multiple recreational sports leagues, including AYSO, PONY Baseball, and YMCA Basketball. He has successfully created and led multiple postseason programs, and has been recognized for his outstanding coaching, winning the LCBSA Spirit of Teaching award.
Coach Larry has experience playing and coaching multiple sports, with a specialty in youth baseball. He has worked with pitchers, and also has experience with the Epstein (rotational) and Lau (linear) hitting philosophies, and familiarity with other hitting systems, such as the High-Level Pattern.
Playing Background
Coach Larry played just about every sport you can think of growing up, including baseball, basketball, flag football, soccer and tennis. He played tennis competitively in Southern California before focusing on baseball exclusively. Brown was a part of two teams that finished in the top 20 at AAU nationals in the early days of travel baseball. He later became a two-time All-League player at Grant High School in the Los Angeles area and was his school’s Pitcher of the Year as a senior. A few of his career highlights include wins over eventual professional athletes, including one former NL MVP. Feel free to ask him about it!
